A great night for Democrats in Summit County, Colorado and the USA.
Summit County Democratic Party
Home PageThe Summit County Democratic Party turned out the
vote in the 2006 General Election held on December 7th, with every
of their local candidates winning voter approval.
Dan Gibbs, a Summit County resident who has served as US Rep Mark
Udall's Western Slope coordinator for the last four years, was
elected to the Colorado House of Representatives District 56 seat.
Dan ran an energetic campaign making appearances at many community
events in Summit, Lake, and Eagle counties.
Gibbs used his enthusiasm to knock on as many doors as possible, listening to and addressing voters' concerns. On election night, he gathered with friends, family and supporters at the Backcountry Brewery to wait for results. Around 10:30 pm, his opponent, former State Senator Ken Chlouber, called to concede and applaud Mr. Gibbs for his well-conducted campaign.
Bill Wallace won the office of County Treasurer. Bill has tendered his resignation from his current position as District 2 representative on the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), effective January 2, 2006.
The process of selecting of an individual to fill the vacancy is underway. Please click on "Procedure for selection of replacement to fill vacated BOCC seat" in the upper left of this page for details.
Returning to the BOCC is Bob French who was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Gary Lindstrom in 2004. Bob later ran for election later that year to serve the final two years of Gary's term and now will serve the full four year term.
Political newcomer Beverly Breakstone was elected Summit County Assessor in a not so much of a nail biter (she ran unopposed).
Summit County also provided healthy majorities to such races as Bill Ritter's successful campaign for Governor of Colorado, Mark Udall's re-election to US House District 2, and State Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald's bid to retain her office as District 16 Senator and president of the Colorado Senate.
Local Democrats were delighted to see an affordable housing initiative win countywide approval as well.
